
Chapter Leadership Awards
Washington State SHRM recognizes the outstanding efforts of local chapters in driving impactful initiatives that strengthen the HR community. These awards celebrate chapters that demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovation, and dedication to SHRM’s mission of empowering people and workplaces.

Apply for a Chapter Leadership award using the award categories and criteria listed below.

The application deadline is Januarys 16, 2026.​

Winners will be announced at the Volunteer Leaders' Summit on February 12, 2026.

Award Categories
​
Living SHRM’s Mission, Vision, and Purpose
Celebrating chapters that exemplify SHRM’s mission to empower workplaces by maximizing human potential. This includes:

Programs that foster inclusive and effective workplaces

Advocacy efforts that align with SHRM’s vision of building a world of work that works for all
-
Innovative initiatives that enhance the HR profession’s role in business and society​
Advancing or Aligning SHRM & SHRM Foundation Initiatives
Recognizing chapters that advance SHRM’s ongoing efforts through initiatives in:

Certification programs
-
Professional learning & skills development
-
Inclusion & diversity (I&D) initiatives
-
Member engagement, retention & acquisition
-
Volunteer development & recognition

Responding to Local Challenges & Workforce Needs
Honoring chapters that take proactive steps to address workforce and community needs, including:

Outreach and community support programs

Government affairs & advocacy
-
Workforce readiness initiatives

Strengthening connections between HR and the broader community
Award Recipients
​There will be one recipient chosen per category, for a total of three awards given. Each award recipient will receive:
-
$1,000 for the chapter
-
1 Registration for WA SHRM’s Annual Conference
-
Recognition on the Washington State SHRM website and social media
-
Formal recognition at the Washington State SHRM Volunteer Leader Summit, and again in March at the WA SHRM Annual Conference

Eligibility Requirements​
​​To be eligible, chapters must:
-
Be a Washington State SHRM Chapter in good standing with SHRM National
-
Ensure the Chapter President or a designated Board member attends all Washington State SHRM meetings
​
Application Process & Timeline
-
Chapters may apply for one or more of the award categories, based on activities completed throughout the year.
-
Applications open in September, and close in November each year.
​
Selection Committee
​​A selection committee, consisting of the Washington State SHRM President, Past President, and President-Elect, will review applications and select the award recipients. Winners are announced in February at the WA SHRM Volunteer Leader Summit and then celebrated at the March Council Meeting and WA SHRM Annual Conference.
